2009 Recital Information

We are excited for our upcoming 2009 Recital! Here is some basic information you will need. More information will be sent as the recital draws closer. Please read each section carefully and if you have any questions don’t hesitate to call or come in.

  • Rehearsal Schedule: We will hold studio rehearsals the week of June 8th. Studio rehearsals are very advantageous to both the student as well as the staff. You will likely have a different or additional class time for that particular week and we ask that you make every effort to attend.
  • Recital Date: June 13, 2009 at 6:00pm
  • Location: Omaha Central High School Auditorium
  • Dress Rehearsal Schedule: Date assignment for your dress rehearsal will follow in the next few weeks. These are the only dates available to us prior to the recital. The dates are June 11 and 12th in the evenings. Students will be assigned to one or both rehearsals.
  • Recital Tights, shoes and accessories: A list of recital tights, accessories and shoes for each class will be posted in the next few weeks.
  • Accounts: Please check your studio account and have ALL balances paid in full, including June tuition. Tickets and costumes will not be handed out if there is an outstanding balance due. Thank you in advance!
  • Costumes: The costumes have started coming in! We will begin over the next few weeks fitting and altering costumes as needed. Costumes will be sent home when entire class sets arrive and have been properly fitted. Traditionally, this is the middle of May (maybe sooner if available!). If you have sewing talent and would like to assist with alterations, please sign up in the lobby. Kim will be organizing groups to work on this soon! Our goal is for all costumes to be ready for pictures! Tough to guarantee, but we are doing our best!
  • Tickets: Each family will receive 6 complimentary tickets. Additional tickets will be available for $8.00 each.
  • T-Shirts: Recital T-shirts will be available for pre-order soon! We encourage pre-ordering if you want to assure you get one! Only a few extras will be available. Recital T-shirts will have the names of all students on the back and the recital theme logo on the front.
  • Photographer: By request, Dennis Hassel of Hassel and Funk Photography will be once again taking group and individual portraits! Even if you are not purchasing the class photo, please be sure that your child is in the group photo. Picture dates are Saturday, May 30th beginning at 3:00 PM and Sunday, May 31st beginning at 11:00 AM. A schedule will be forthcoming. Last year, most photos were back and handed out at the rehearsal! We hope to do the same this year!
  • Live Photography: We will once again have a photographer doing “performance” shots. These are photos of students during the show while they are performing. This photographer will be the only camera allowed during the performance. Pictures are available at a discount from previous recitals at: 2006 password: Dance10 (case sensitive) 2007 password: Dance10 (case sensitive) 2008 password: Dance10 (case sensitive) The 2009 pictures will be posted soon after the recital.  password: Dance10 (case sensitive)
  • Videographer: Mr. Video will be recording the recital and DVDs and VHS tapes will be available for order. Watch for additional information to come.
  • Flowers: Giving a flower is a great way to give a little boost of confidence before the show or a congratulations on a job well done after the show! These are available in the lobby before the show and during intermission.
  • Class Chaperones: Please consider volunteering for class chaperone. This is one of the most important positions of the stage crew! Without great parent involvement, we don’t have a show! A sign up sheet will be posted in the lobby!
  • Finale: ALL students will participate in the finale; therefore students will remain in the dressing room area throughout the recital. The exception to this is the pre-school age dancers who may join the audience after their number(s) and return to the dressing room area three dances prior to the finale. This will be set up between you and your class chaperone.

How will the recital work?

The Dress Rehearsal is mandatory for all students participating in the recital. Due to limited seating, please limit one adult chaperone per family at the dress rehearsal. Only the chaperones are allowed in the backstage and dressing areas.

For the recital, students should be escorted to the stage door 30 minutes before the show starts. Students that arrive late will not be allowed to perform. Students should be dressed for the first routine/dance that he or she is involved in, with stage makeup on. Each student should bring a small bag containing any additional costumes or shoes needed, and something to do back stage such as a book, small game, Barbie, etc. Do not pack markers, make-up, food, or anything that can ruin a costume, or anything that would be expensive to replace if lost. LABEL EVERYTHING WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME.

Only students and people signed up to work backstage are allowed backstage. Security personnel will be posted at the doors to enforce this policy. This ensures the safety of your child so you may enjoy the show.

Once backstage, your child will sit with his/her class and the backstage parent assigned to the class. The backstage workers will engage your child in quiet games and activities. They will line up to go on stage a few numbers before their routine/dance. After their performance, they will return to their assigned area and continue playing with their classmates. Each child is supervised by the backstage workers at all times. Backstage parents will also help their class during costume changes. Again note that no one is allowed backstage during the show, except the backstage parents that are assigned to the performance. This is for your child’s safety.

At the end of the recital, all students participate in a finale number. Parents may pick their children up from the dressing room. Students will be released only to their parents unless prior arrangements are made. Again, this is to protect your child.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to ask one of the teachers or Mary Fischer, Lori Tanner, Kim Castellano.
